Reggie goes to the vet...and comes home...

Today Reggie went to the Vet for his yearly teeth cleaning. I get to take him before work, and pick him up afterwards, which works out well. However, that means Marley has to stay at home, by himself, without his best friend (Marley gets his teeth cleaned in a couple of weeks).

I decided to record Reggie's home coming. From the moment I walked in the house I heard the strangest "meow" coming out of Marley - definitely not one I am accustomed too. You can see how upset he is and is telling me all about his day without Reggie to share it with. He wouldn't even go up and sniff Reggie like he usually does after Reggie comes home from the Vet. In fact, right now as I write this, he is still giving me strange meows thirty minutes later and is on top of the stove and has refused to come and say "hi" to his brother...

Reggie on the other hand is happy to be home and is bird watching - almost like nothing happened today!!....Marley is the more "sensitive" kitty, so he hasn't quite forgiven me for taking his best friend today.

Wow, today Reggie is 3 years old! We got him as a spunky 4-month old and he has not slowed down. Even with his asthma he is a fighter and never lets that get him down. We love him so much and he brings so much happiness and laughter to our every day lives.

I hope he forgives me for not blogging on his birthday sooner, but there is big news in our household - a wedding (no, not the Royal One), is happening in 9 days! Reggie's dad and I and getting hitched! So, needless to say our household is full of wedding projects and the blog has taken a backseat...but just for now.

Still, we want to wish our "pookie" HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

This is Reggie's attempt to lay low and hide. The kitties are aware
now when I'm drawing the bath 90% of the time it means one of them is
getting a bath.

Marley hides behind the couch usually but Reggie just crouches down
wherever he is. It's pretty cute if you ask me. Then when I pick him
up he is dead weight and trys to look as sad as he can. It almost
works...

That today I said goodbye to my childhood friend, Tippy. Here is an excerpt I wrote to my family and friends.

Tippy, November 1990-December 13, 2010

It is with a very heavy heart that we said goodbye today to Tippy, 1990-2010. We had him since he was an 8 week old kitten. He was the most loyal friend, comforter, and pal a girl could have. No one purred better than he did. He enjoyed lounging in the sun and in his younger days was a very good hunter. He LOVED being on your lap and you could guarantee if you sat down at night to watch T.V., Tippy joined you on your lap.

He passed away peacefully at home on the couch about 10 minutes ago. My mom spent the entire morning with him, and I was fortunate enough to have spent the last few days with him as well. He wasn’t breathing heavy and didn’t appear to be in any pain. Really, this is the best we could have hoped for him as my mom and sister were going to be taking him to the vet’s very shortly. He will be cremated and we will get his remains, along with a paw print memory.

Writing this is helping with my grief, so thank you for allowing me to share with you the good memories of our boy. Little did we know a trip to the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter 20 years ago, when I was 9 years old and Sara was 6 years old, would give us a sweet kitty boy to love and enjoy during our childhoods and into our adult lives. We love you forever Tippy.

Reggie's pre bath time

After hearing the bath water this is Reggie's attempt to hide. He
cowers down wherever he is and thinks we can't see him. Then when I
pick him up he stays in a ball and is dead weight.

Too funny.

Bath time was a success tonight though and takes less than five
minutes. He gets one every six weeks or so as he has peach fuzz skin
as opposed to Marley who gets one more frequently because he is very
hairless.

Today is the day our Marley was born, along with one sister (who found a great home too), 4 hours away from where we live. We were lucky enough to find a great breeder and voila! - Marley was ours!

He is as active a 3 year old should be! He loves his "treatsies" and LOOOOVES having his face scratched and will meow at you until you do so!

She lives with our mom's parents (aka our grandparent kitty slaves). My vet is so thoughtful (and also knows how worried I can get) and sent me the following updates. She also sent me this picture. I think he was just coming out of sedation here. (I brought his blanket for him).

Hi Lisa, Reggie is ready to go under anesthesia. He required special handling, but no extra charge for it as you're such a great kitty momma. He really was as good as he personally could be. I adore his tufts of fur on his ears. We'll let you know when he's in recovery. He's third in the lineup. His CBC and internal organ function screen were within normal limits.

He is in recovery and is extremely lovable right now, lots of nose-to-nose contact. He can go home after 4. Did great!

Marley here. Tomorrow Reggie goes in for his comprehensive exam and his very first teeth cleaning! Mom is a little nervous because they have to put him under anesthesia, but she is very confident in her vet and knows that he is in very, very good hands. But actually Mom is more stressed out about the whole "no food after midnight" deal because us Sphynx looooove to eat. At least once she leaves the house at 8:00am I can get some food! Mom has also mentioned to Dad that I should go in for a cleaning soon too...Hmmm...I don't know about that one! Also, Reggie will be 2 years old in 2 weeks time! My little brother is growing up so fast. My 3rd birthday isn't until July.

I think this photo is pretty self explanatory, but I'll still talk about it. My boys love to cuddle. PERIOD. We know we've been bad and haven't posted in awhile, but our Mom has just been going a little nutty. She works out 5 days a week, in the mornings, at 5:15am! Then she goes to her day hunting job, sometimes taking a little cat nap in her car during lunch...then she's even crazy enough to sometimes workout (gasp!) AGAIN at night by doing yoga or run club somewhere here in L.A. So, needless to say, while she hasn't been neglecting us, she has been neglecting this blog. But have no fears, we are still here, healthy, happy and will be blogging just as often as we can. Oh, and did I mention she and Daddy are getting married next year?! So that is only going to add to the busyness around here!

The boys all of a sudden have discovered when the white basket comes in from outside, there is a pile of "warmth" waiting for them. I can't fold laundry anymore without them burrowing in the basket, or burrowing under boxers, underwear, and shirts on the bed when I dump out the clothes to fold. Such characters!

I am sooooo debonair as I lay here in my kitty condo soaking in the sun...

I didn't even realize it until my friend pointed it out, but Reggie's ears do get pretty hairy (for a sphynx) during the winter time. It's very cute actually...you can see the tufts of hair in this picture as he snuggles in a down blanket on my lap, keeping us both warm.

Marley does not get a "winter coat", just lil' Reggie does...

PS: I've been taking most of my recent pictures of the boys with my iPhone because a) it's easy and fast and b) I don't have to download the pictures, I can just email them to myself!

Not my idea, trust me! I meowed with vigor and purpose the entire way here!!!

Once the doctor comes in, I immediately curl up on my blanket so she can't examine me. I am glad my mom brings the blanket because that table is cooooold! But, I got examined and I am one healthy boy! I weigh 9 lbs. and didn't have to get any shots this year since I am an indoor kitty and the American Association of Feline Practitioners says I only need my Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) /Feline Herpesvirus-1 and Feline Calicivirus (FHV-1/FCV) every three years!

We had a good Christmas here. It's been a bit chilly for us Southern Californians, but we can't complain too much! Here is a photo from my iPhone of Marley over the weekend...both boys are doing good...Reggie has been having a few more asthma attacks than usual, but I think the colder weather might have something to do with it...and of course, there is a lot more snuggling going on...Marley cuddled on my lap last night when I watched TV and Reggie kept jumping up too only to kick Marley out so he could take over the warm lap spot. But Marley is such a good brother and finds somewhere else to snuggle...Happy New Year!

Hi everyone! I know our mom has been a little "lazy" lately on our blog (how dare she!), but she wanted us to let you know we are doing just fine here. Our mom says she's especially thankful for that as we approach Thanksgiving because a lot of our furry friends have been sick. Please visit Vito and send his mom lots of kitty hugs and prayers.

The last 2 days we have been non stop bird watching these crazy, crazy birds just outside the window from our kitty condo! We can't stop looking and staring at them!!! If only we were outdoor kitties...

Marley has decided that it's perfectly fine to pull down the kitchen towels from the stove in order to lay on them. He does this every few days probably...he also loves sniffing them and tries to burrow in them, but is unsuccessful so resorts to laying on top. He's so silly!

Meet Tippy, aka Tipster, aka dragon breath, aka "the sweetest 19 year old grandpa cat you'll ever meet or want to meet"

Tippy was adopted from the pound here in Southern California back in 1990 as a kitten. He has survived all these years living as an indoor/outdoor cat, although nowadays he is mostly indoor and prefers it that way.

I grew up with him since I was 9 until I moved out to attend college. I love my Tipster and today is for him and all his toothless-ness.

Update Galore!

Meooooow! Since we checked in last so much has been going on! We will give you a quick run down via a list to update everyone! We promise to check in more often, at least once a week. Here goes nothing! (In no particular order, just as our mom thinks of things):

We ran out of kitty litter one day and our mom had to buy this really dusty kind (Tidy Cats Small Spaces). Well, as it turns out us kitties LOVED the dusty litter and only used that cat box. But we are now back to our normal "pine" dust free kind. Darn!
Reggie had his bi-annual comprehensive exam last week at the vet. They drew blood (they had to charge Mom $17 for extra restraint!), did lab work, listened to his heart and lungs, etc, etc, and everything is within normal limits and he breathes comfortably! Yeah! The vet called Reggie a "crazy dude!"
Mom and Dad had a few trips, so the pet sitter lady came by. We were good kitties and even cuddly with her one day. Reggie was soooo good and even let the pet sitter lady administer his inhaler each day without a fight! This makes Mom happy.
Reggie has stopped being so "selfish" and even cleans Marley now from time to time! (Marley has always cleaned Reggie, even going so far as to lick inside of his ears - yuckie if you ask Mom!)
Marley has a new obsession that we like to call "securing the perimeter". He runs from room to room looking out all the windows, and then takes off to another window looking outside. It's like he's on the lookout for ninja attack cats or something. It's very funny and his eyes are all dilated with his ears pinned back as he does this!
Mom and Dad got engaged after almost 6 years of dating!
Marley and Reggie all of a sudden stopped drinking out of their Petmate Water Fountain. They will only drink out of a cup on top of the kitchen counter now. This is super annoying and Mom wishes they would start drinking out of their fountain bowl again. Any advice???
Warning, this next one is pretty gross: Mom is confused why Marley and Reggie's poops are different colors even though they eat the exact same dry food. Any one else experience this?
Reggie has taken on a new nickname which is "Pookie" - don't know how/why I started calling him this.
Marley is ridiculously vocal when he wants to be petted. It's actually very cute.
Both cats LOVE to sleep in our bed all burrowed under the covers...but only when we're NOT in it! Little stinkers, I like cuddling with them.
Both cats have taken to sleeping on top of the kitchen table. They like the sun that shines through there.

Our mom wanted to let you know that yes, she is still on jury duty, but thinks she may be done this week. But in the meantime, she wanted to let you know that I am still being a very good boy about taking my kitty inhaler medication. Here are a few pictures...apparently she took them to show some person called the "cat sitter" that is supposedly coming over here next weekend. I'm not quite sure what that is all about, but anyways, she took them for that purpose.

PSS: Thank you all for the birthday wishes for Marley. Mom feels terrible because she didn't get to do a special birthday post for him back on 7/17. Well, she promises to make up for it when she is back in full swing. It's true though, Marley celebrated his 2 years on this great earth and he continues to bring us so much love each and every day.

Just a quick note to say hello and let all our friends know that we are fine and being your typical sphynx' on a daily basis...our mom is still on jury duty so she is not at a computer during the day like she usually is when she's at work. Then after jury duty she heads straight to the gym and doesn't get home until 7:00pm (hrmph!) Needless to say she is just too tired to blog right now, but will definitely get back to regular blogging after her time serving as a juror (sometime after August!)

Our mom and dad have been getting lots of sun this summer at the beach and we've been trying our best to sunbathe too!

Meows to everyone! Our mom wanted to let you all know that everything is great here in sphynx land and we are happy, healthy, and hyper!

Our mom will sort of be on a hiatus, but will still blog when she has the energy...We say this because she got selected to sit on a jury and the trial is expected to go 60+ days, so she said she will probably be exhausted by the time she gets home every day.

But...she said she promises to still play mousie with Reggie and promises to give us extra Greenies...we like that!

Hope everyone is enjoying their soon to be summer! (June 21st is officially SUMMER!)

You may be wondering why most of Marley and Reggie's pictures are of them snoozing, but it's because they don't "sit" still long enough for any other pictures! Whatever room you are in, they are in, they are constantly on the move, always exploring, always seeing what you're up to! I can't even "take care of business" without one of them coming in to join me! Reggie even jumps up on the bathroom sink while I'm in there and pokes at my shoulders to "hurry up" so that I'll play fetch with him!
