Honest things about us

Hi Everyone!

It has taken us some time to get back to our blog. First our mom was busy with work, working out, and then having to come home and take a shower. (Hmph, imagine that! Too busy to type about us). Anyways, she is finally taking some time to blog (It's about time!)

Well, we received an Honest Scrap Award from our friends, Grover and Piggy. We like them because they are practically our cousins! Even though we live 3,000 miles apart, we have lots in common, mainly our lack of fur! (Yes, Grover, you have been lumped into the "sphynx" family for this post - deal with it) :)

So, here are the "rules" of this award:

“When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to said person so everyone knows who he or she is.

Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including ones who have no idea who you are because you don’t have 7 friends.

Show the 7 random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Weblog.” Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.

List at least ten honest things about yourself, as well as an Honest Photo...Then, pass it on!"

Ten Honest Things About Us! (From our Mom's perspective)

  1. "We love licking ourselves. Even though we have no fur, well, very little, we still clean ourselves like other kitties"
  2. When I put away my jewelry after getting home from work, Reggie is always right there, on my dresser, watching me. I don't know if he likes the sound of the jewelry box, or if he's just very happy to see me.
  3. Marley meows A LOT. Not in a bad way, but he needs to let you know when he wants a kitty massage and he wants it NOW!
  4. Reggie is my little follower. He is constantly sitting by me on the couch, and even sits on the toilet seat waiting for me to finish my "bedtime routine".
  5. When we brought Reggie into our family, Marley only hissed twice; once because he walked up to the cat carrier and was startled by this little 4-lb. "thing" in it, and another time because he was just being Marley. After that, they became best friends.
  6. "We eat, and we eat A LOT. Even though we eat more because we need to in order to keep warm, (all sphynx' do), we still eat more than we should, at least that's what our mom thinks"
  7. Nicknames often include, but in a loving manner, - "Stinky Butt" (both), "Jaguar" (Reggie), "Litter Balls" (don't be offended, they get litter stuck there!) and "Baby Boy" (both).
  8. Reggie has one month left before becoming a MANCAT!
  9. When it's too quiet around here, we have to inspect to see what kind of mischief they are getting into!
  10. "When our eyes dilate, they get really, really, big, and that means TIME TO PLAY!"
Ok, and this is who we are giving this award to (warning! Not all are cats! But fear not, they won't hurt you my feline friends):

  1. The Mowles Family
  2. The Little Cat Diaries
  3. Cats in Maryland
  4. Fat Eric and Friends
  5. Shine Pet Photos
  6. Camie's Kitties
  7. To Aire is Divine
(Bogart just lost his daddy bean not too long ago, so I don't know if mama bean will be up to posting about her award, but I still wanted to let them know I love their blog and am thinking about them)
Lastly, here is an honest picture of us:

We know we aren't supposed to be up here, but we love getting as high as possible and keeping an eye on things.

Time Out Thursday

We haven't forgotten about everyone! Our mom has been busy. Yesterday she didn't get home until 8:30pm! No wonder Marley was meowing at her at 2:00am, he must have been mad at her still for getting home so late! I wasn't too mad at her as I still snuggled with her under the covers this morning.

We will post soon, and we have received a couple of honest scrap awards (where we get to tell you a bunch of "Honest" things about us and our antics), so we have to blog about that soon! And we promise we will.

Have a good day everyone!

~Reggie
PS: I am doing pretty well with my inhaler and have had only a few minor, and shortened, asthma attacks since starting it 10 days ago! Me thinks it's working.

Easy Like Sunday Morning

Now how am I supposed to make the bed with these two cute faces snuggled in it? Ok, guess I won't.
It is perfectly okay to clean baby brother when he is sleeping and has his feet all up in your face and space.

We are purring hard for Piggy. Please send him and his mom lots of love...and Grover too.

Happy Green Day!

Well, Reggie is now officially on his asthma inhaler twice a day (1 puff 2x a day)...and, to my surprise, he lets me administer it to him! Granted, it's only been a couple of times now, but he didn't fight me and allows me to hold the mask over his face for the required 15 seconds (or 5-6 breaths, if they are slow breaths) for the chamber to expire all the medication. (There is this little flap in the aerosol chamber that moves back and forth with each breath, so you know he's breathing and when he inhales; also let's you know he's not holding his breath!)

Marley's ears are getting dirty faster I've noticed. I think he may be getting his fungal ear thing he had when I first adopted him (Fall 2007!), but I'm not sure why after almost a couple of years it's come back. Maybe it's not that, but his ears get DIRTY after only a few days after I've cleaned them; he used to go 7-10 days between cleanings. So, I've started him back on the conofite lotion medication and we'll see if that improves things. He doesn't scratch at his ears or anything, they are just dirty! (I will spare you a picture of the q-tip after I've cleaned them out!)

In honor of St. Patrick's Day (no, us sphynx' are not Irish, and neither are our mom or dad), Marley decided to get dressed up in this green bag. He likes this bag so much, I'm not quite sure why, but who am I to judge?!

I also made green pistachio cupcakes and brought them into work today. :)

This is the AeroKat feline aerosol chamber. The inhaler medication is at the end and when you administer the "puff" it goes in the chamber and then Reggie breaths in the medication. You can see how this can be difficult as I have to hold that mask over his nose and mouth, but so far, (knock on wood), so good!

Marley is wearing green in honor of St. Patrick's Day!

Yummy cupcakes!

Dermatological Monday

Marley has very, very fine hairs on his body; he feels like a dry warm shammy.

Reggie is what they call the "peach fuzz" sphynx. He is a lot smoother and softer than Marley.

My cats are fearless!

Marley and Reggie are attracted to things giving off warmth; i.e. the DVD player, sun coming through the window, their warming pad...but the stove range!? Seriously guys??? I just had to snap a few pictures before getting them OFF the stove!

"WHAT? It's nice and toasty up here..."
"I want Mexican hot chocolate too!"

Monday, Monday, Monday

The weekend was beautiful here in Southern California. (Sorry east coast kitties!) We did a lot of napping and Mom got a haircut too; she has been at work for only a few hours this morning and has received about 5 compliments on her hair! That sure makes her feel good on this daylight savings Monday (ughh, tired!). She told her co-workers not to get too used to it though because she is lazy and would rather sleep in than do her hair purrty every morning!

"What do you mean Marley isn't a pillow?"
(You can see Marley's freckles on his lower back here; I put clear UV film on this window to prevent any sunburns!)
"Marley doesn't seem to mind so I think I will just hang out here a little longer"
(Reggie does look gigantic in this picture, but he's really just 8.5 lbs)
Mom with her hair actually done!
(Usually she pulls it back or wears it wavy with her natural curl)

What do you mean this isn't kitty food?

Tonight I made ground turkey in a pan for turkey tacos. I was lazy and didn't do the dishes right away. It was pretty quiet around here so I knew the cats were up to no good. This is what I found when I entered the kitchen! And this is not the first time I have found him licking dirty bowls out of the sink! Gosh, from the size of his pooch it's obvious he doesn't get enough food!

Bath Time!!!

Last night Marley got a much needed B-A-T-H. He is so smart though, he knows when I'm running the bath water and he looks at me with these big dilated eyes, and then proceeds to hide. After the water was finished running and I had it all nice and warm and soapy for him, I had to entice him out of hiding.

We then entered the bathroom and the door was shut. He let out a little whiny meow, but once I placed him in the warm bath water which reached almost completely up to his tummy, he just sat there. I think he really enjoyed it last night too because I had made the water warmer than usual and he kept crouching down so that most of his tummy was submerged under the water. All in all he was probably in the water for 5 minutes or so.

I scrubbed his body. I cleaned his ears. I trimmed his nails (by lifting out one paw at a time). I even did the least pleasant part and that was scrubbing his manly parts (what's left of them) and his you know what. Since he is hairless this often gets stained with you know what and can become quite stinky. (Sorry, but that's what happens to the sphynx!) I am gentle and it takes a good 20 seconds or so to complete this "task".

I then rinsed him using the water that was already in the tub. He freaks out just a little if I start to draw fresh water. Then he got wrapped up in a towel and was dry in probably 30 seconds! (Love this part).

As soon as I opened the door Reggie was waiting for him. I asked Reggie, "What, do you want one too?" As you may know Reggie is a nightmare when it comes to his baths, so I decided to put this off for another time. Plus, Reggie can go about a month in between baths, whereas Marley needs one every 2-3 weeks.

Here are some pictures of Marley after his bath. Hopefully you can see how squeaky clean and pretty he is. Although, he always finds it necessary to give himself another bath as soon as I finish. Go figure.

Mancat (and almost Mancat) Monday

"I'm not quite a mancat yet, but I will be at the end of April! Here I am trying to snooze but this flashy thing kept getting in my eyes!"
"I am wrinkly and cute"
"I am such a handsome mancat"
"We are all tuckered out after the weekend. Time to wind down on the couch. As you can see, we take up all the room, so no where for our beans to sit"
